Katarina began skating at age five. old. It was not long before her talent became evident, and at the age of Karl-Marx-Stadt she entered the school that was specifically made for kids with athletic abilities. Here she first met their trainer Jutta M ller. Witt finished second at the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. Her debut was a huge success. Since then, her grace and elegance captured the eye of all. Her dominance began in this particular sport. Olympic Success In the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal for women's figure-skating following a heatedly-contested competition. Four years later, that she was able to win an even more intense race. Her free skate was an unbeatable loss. However, the gold medal was awarded to her because of her performances in both the compulsory figures (short programme) and mandatory figures. Witt was the first female to win in both the men's and women's figure-skating competitions since Sonja Hiene. Hall of Fame Witt had amazing success in her acting career but she returned to figure skating for competition at her participation in the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. The crowd was captivated by her performance despite the fact that she finished seventh. Witt was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame by the members of it in the year 1995.
